Who Am I
An artiste torn to bend the structure of synthpop and rhythm and soul, 27-year-old Joseph Royal has quickly emerged as a songwriter shaping a distinctive piece of Canadian’s underground. Despite a debut record clinging onto his career’s horizon, the musician’s ingenuity and ethic has built acclaim more natural than artificial buzz, further purifying his music. The songs brace originality by blending the rock tint to late 80s’ funk with the lustful exterior of alternative hip-hop, similar to Papa’s Got a Brand New Bag collapsing into Life Of Pablos’ arms and looking for comfort. Royal’s I AM (EP) is a trapping modern instrumentals with Royal’s vibrant step into the surreal reality of Hip-Hop and what spills out may touch and explode the insides of independent pop. Shifting into a handful of singles that move in genre from rock inspired “Low Like This” to body shaking dance single “Squat Low” there is no one style that Royal will hesitate to conquer.
